The Daughters and Spirit of Harriet The Daughters and Spirit of Harriet was released in 2014. It was a book from a collaboration of authors. It is a collection of poems, short stories, songs and excerpts from donors to honor the late Harriet Tubman, Nelson Mandela and Thomas Garrett. This literary piece has been written by various writers, artists and authors nationwide to express their love for humanity and willingness to give back, which is the true spirit of Harriet Tubman.Proceeds from this book are donated to one of the largest medical center for children, Childrens Hospital Research Center of Oakland, in Northern California. The story behind this book: Inspired by Harriet Tubman On of Mirthells fondest memories was at the age of ten when she had partaken in her elementary schools assembly meeting during Black History Month. Her person of choice to write about was the late Harriet Tubman. It was her first essay to write at the age of ten, and her reason for choosing Harriet is because all the other students had chosen to write about Martin Luther King. Proud of her afro American heritage, and being born on June 19th which is known as Juneteenth, the official date when slavery had ended, she felt compelled to write about the one person who saved over a thousand slaves - A woman name Harriet Tubman Not only did Mirthell write an essay, but recited this poem as well: * Harriet! Harriet! born a slave Work for your master, from the cradle to your grave Harriet
