First, Raleigh set Stanhope as a hero. They knew each other for a desire period (high school) and Stanhope was like an important guy there addition he was an experienced militar. That made him an idol for Raleigh, and consequentally making him join Stanhopes company. I think that some of his expectations were fullfilled in his remainder chat with Stahope befote dying.
